You need a brass one. Nothing else will make you happy. If you wear it out, fix it or buy another. Even over at the CAS forum you never hear about anyone wearing one out, only people 'hearing' about 'someone' wearing one out.
I figure that's really the only option! Like I said I plan on shooting smokeless .45 Colts loaded to duplicate BP pressures, nothing hotter.

I think that if you can afford to wear out a Henry shooting .44-40 or .45 Colt ammo, you can probably afford to buy a replacement.

I can here you guys about brass framed but one of the original Henry I held was an Iron framed one and for that reason I went with steel. The extra strength was icing on the cake!

Brass is to much work to keep nice and it looks poor when it is sort of splotchy as the patina builds.

Hey, man, it's not like a brass gun is made out of rubber. They'll shoot. They may not last forever, but they will last quite a long time.

I mean really, if you're not an active competitor, how many rounds do you put through a given gun? What's the last gun that you put ten thousand center fire rounds through?

The last gun was my Sig 229 sport on 3/29/13 (10,179 rnds) , but two weeks before it was my P9 Ultra (10,505) and my high round count is my Diamondback and 47,320 rounds fired.

Anyway back to the Henry's.

If you want brass get it. Its your choice obviously. I know now that I have my steel frame, I will probably pick up a classic "iron frame" blued version to add to my Case Hardened one.

They are a lot of fun as long as you don't have to worry about stretching the brass or keeping it shiny.
