Howdy

'Outlaw' is a marketing term that Uberti made up. Remington simply called it the Model 1875. They were chambered for 44 Remington Centerfire at first. 44 Remington Centerfire was a proprietary cartridge, and the 1875 Remington was the only revolver ever chambered for it. It was similar to the 44 Colt, with a heeled bullet. Later the Model 1875 was chambered for 45 Colt and 44-40.

Remington was never able to overcome the lead Colt had with the Single Action Army, which was first produced in 1873. Colt secured lucrative contracts for the SAA with the Army, Remington was not able to sell more than about 650 to the military for the Indian police. Mexico bought about 1000. Remington was able to secure an order for 10,000 with the Egyptian government, but not many were delivered because Egypt could not pay.

There were not very many of the Model 1875 made, Remington only produced about 25,000 between 1875 and 1889. With their head start of two years, Colt had produced 130,000 SAAs by 1889.

Remington brought out the Model 1890, without the web under the barrel, in 1891. Only about 2,000 were produced between 1891 and 1894. These were chambered for 44-40.

There was also a transitional Model 1888, that looked like the Model 1890 without the under barrel web. There were only about 1,000 of these produced, all chambered for 44-40.
