I hope this is the right place to post this.

I have a 1895SBL purchased brand new in December. I am shooting HSM Cowboy loads 405 grain cast bullets.

I am having a leading problem about where the barrel meets the receiver. I have heard horror stories about how some Marlin's have a poor thread job in this area and hope mine isn't one of them.

The leading is only in the grooves, and not on the lands. And it is only up into the bore, not near the throat or muzzle or anything. Should I be concerned?

I also had one case come out that had pieces of lead embedded in it. When you pop the lead out there is dents in the case. I have never had this happen, and it happened only on one round.

I am reading about Marlin's terrible quality control lately after I purchased the rifle of course. This is the first rifle I have ever purchased brand new, and I have to say I am pretty disappointed. For what I spent I wish I would have saved up a little longer and bought the Winchester 1886. My stock doesn't fit the greatest on my Marlin and the amount of metal shavings I cleaned out of it from the initial cleaning was ridiculous.

Has anyone else had the leading or other issues?

Im not very well versed in marlins, .45-70s, or cast bullets. So take this as simply musings, and far from fact.

What it sounds like to me is poor ignition (pressures not coming up quick enough), and the bullet not sealing to the bore. Or...well and/or a slightly oversize bore.
