I have a Remongton 1903 and we (my dad and I) are trying to figure out what model it is. 4 groove barrel, ladder rear sight, but stamped parts on alot of it. Numbers match where we can find them, and of all things, it has absolutey gorgeous figure in the stock. Is this a refit gun, or a "modified 03" that I seem to recall hearing about at one time or another. Serial is 3327XXX. Oh, and it's a dandy shooter, if you can get over the long trigger pull.
Any help is appreciated,
Jeff

Sounds a lot like a Remington M1903(M), or (Modified)

Which is the prototype for, and predated, the M1903A3 by just a smidgen as Uncle Sam geared up to play in that little skirmish called WWII.

Your serial number range places production at Remington in 1942, just prior to the introduction of the M1903A3. One doesn't see many 1903 (Modified) rifles, usually it's a 1903, 1903A1, or 1903A3. Every so often one will see a 1903 Mk1 (as fitted for the Pederson Device), 1903 (Modified) as built by Remington with the older barrel-mounted rear sight, 1903A1 U.S.M.C. sniper with Unertl scope, and M1903A4 U.S. Army sniper with either 3/4" Weaver or 7/8" Lyman scopes. Take good care of that rifle.

Here's the serial number range:

Here's another 1903 (Modified) for sale on GunsAmerica.com:

There were some cost-savings captured near the end of the M1903 production as Gewehr stated. Notice the lightening cuts below the rear sight have been eliminated in the rifle pictured above, so the sight base is round.

Below is an earlier M1903 with the lightening cuts:
