I'm working on a Remington 1903a3 that appears to be all correct, However the FJA and P marks on the stock are in some sort of ink rather than stamped into the wood. I haven't run across this in my limited experience, is this factory?

Fwiw, receiver serial dates 6/43 with a 4/43 barrel

Possibly just worn-down, or maybe been sanded? Then what's left has just darkened with age/oil/grime? My 8/43 03A3 is like that, same with an M1 carbine, the stamps are there but they don't look like stamps anymore.

Well that makes sense... probably why I didn't think of it.

Just hand grease/gun oil + age. The stock has been sanded or scraped. You see it all the time.

What it looked like before sanding or scraping.
