1903A3 with yellow circle painted on stock

I acquired a 1903A3 that has a 3 inch yellow circle painted on the right side of the stock. It is nice but used. The A3 is a 1943 production and the circle is spray painted on, dull/flat, and a bit faded. When I got the rifle the mag follower and spring was missing. Could the circle indicate a drill or ceremonial piece? Maybe it indicates ammo like the red paint band on Lend Lease Enfields which took 3006 vs 303. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

My best guess it is a "rack marking" and the rifle was used for drill purposes
Remington? Or smith Corona? Tell us more!
