I have a Gibbs 1903A4 reproduction rifle it prints a good group. The problem is shooting a 50 yard sighting target 30 M-1 (200 -1000 yard) I group center line with the adjusting the base rear ring screws but with the 25 click down elevation I'm hitting somewhere around 800 yards approx. 10 inches to get to 300 yards and no clicks left. It's not the scope (M73G4) with total 50 M.O.A. clicks are consistent with inches moved. The A3 sight dove tail is used fits into the Redfield base but there is a gap between the bottom of the rings and the base. The rifle is not shimmed in the front of the base.

Your thoughts please.
