So, I just got my 1917 made 1907 pattern for my Lee Enfield No1 Mk3.
Pretty happy with it I have to admit.

I was wondering if the good guys on this section could help with a few questions though.

It appears that the there are some flecks of what appears to be black paint on the guard, blade, and pommel and I'm wondering if it's original to the bayonet.
Also, I was wondering how sharp the edges of this should be.

Thanks in advance!

Nice... A No.1 Lee Enfield feels naked without 18 inches of steel stuck on the end.

"They don't like it up em"

One of the funniest thing that I've seen was Lara Croft defending herself with an empty Enfield with an '07 bayonet in that second Tomb Raider movie. Can't find a clip of that action, but the beginning of that confrontation comes in toward the end of this YouTube dance piece.

Seeing it always inspires me to get a 1907 bayonet for my Enfields.

The black paint is normal for a WW2 refit of the 1907. Mine has it, and its flakey, but its all original. As for the edge, sharp enough. Its made to be used with some force, not as a whittling knife. I wouldn't really do much in the way of sharpening, more harm can be done than good.

You'd be surprised what you can go through and stab with minimal effort with that bayonet on the end of a No. 1.
