Depends on what you mean GI.

The military has recently bought 1911 pistols for some special ops units.

As for standard issue 1911's, no, the last contract was to Colt in 1945.

Thanks.
I did mean standard issue 1911 1a. I guess we were using government surplus when I was in the USN.[1959-1969]

Yep, the last new 1911-A1 was purchased in 1945. After that, all 1911's and 1911-A1's were checked over by armorers, rebuilt in arsenals and reissued until replaced by the M9.

Just to clarify nomenclature, the pistol adopted in 1911 is the Model 1911, or M1911. The upgrade is the Model 1911A1 or M1911A1.

No, no .45 pistols were made specifically by or for the government after 1945. Some commercial 1911 type pistols, and other pistols, have been purchased "off the shelf" for special uses in recent years, but the official service pistol is the M9.
