Conversion kits
Quick question, I'm researching Cieners/Marvels/AA/Kimber and Wilson conversion kit, pricing from Brownell's or their respective websites. ( I get a discount from Brownells).

I can get the platinum Cup Ciener from Brownells for a bit cheaper than the comparable adjustable-sighted kits. I will not be dealing with JAC himself.

Why is it the Kimber and Wilson kits will fit either a Commander or Government frame, while the Ciener will only do one or the other?

Right now my 1911's are a LWC and a Series 70 Gold Cup and it would be nice to use one or the other at times and maybe down the road getting a RIA frame.

Also, what are your experiences with the different kits? Right now I'm leaning toward the Wilson for no particular reason.

I too am very interested in a conversion kit. I've been warned that some people buy kits and experience feeding problems... I'd like to avoid that. I'm eying the marvel kit because it looks high quality and they send you a sample target which they actually shot with your .22 barrel. They guarantee it to be an inch or under at 50 yards. Plus they come with a scope rail. (No I'm not advertising) On the other hand, I could afford a nice Buckmark or Ruger for $400. But I already have a surprisingly accurate and nice Heritage Rough Rider .22, and not a lot of room in my safe...

I wish I could shoot that well!

Speaking from personal experience I would avoid the Ciener. Their customer service is non-existent. I spend as much time cleaning the firing pin assembly and housing as I ever have been able to shoot it. I'd go for something else.

Aw come on, I've only been waiting over 5 months and numerous phone calls, emails, faxes with no reply :fire: It's time to involve the attorneys I guess.
*mental note to self*- check online before ordering anything from now on...

I recently purchased a Kimber conversion and have been quite satisfied with it. It's not designed to lock open after the last rd but I've had no problems at all with it. I'm using it on one of my full size Kimber pistols and a friend put it on one of his compact (4 inch) Kimbers and it functioned well too. Ammo used was Remington hypervelocity golden bullets and CCI minimags.

JAC has seperate kits available for government, commander, and officer's models, with the correct slide/bbl length for all three, so they're listed to work with the frame that matches it. I thought about getting a commander conversion for mine but went with a 5" instead. I dont see why a commander kit wouldnt work on a government pistol or vise-versa.

I think everyone else just offers the 5" conversion.

If you get the Ciener, get the adjustable sights. Mine shot high, had to take about .040 off of the rear to bring POI down, and I think I'll have to take more off. Havent got it on paper yet, but it shoots well enough for tin cans.

I went with the Ciener because it was the cheapest and was in stock. It runs well with mini-mags, federal bulk, and remington GBs. Not so much with Winchester Xpert.

I had a Platinum Cup Gov't model before and foolishly sold it.

It wouldn't go on a Commander, the ejector was different.

Get the Marvel. Runs good, easy folks to deal with, had to get mine fixed once. Very accurate.

Was the ejector on the commander taller?

I'm the type that would think twice about filing on the slide so that the conversion would fit over the ejector. The second time I thought about it, I would grab a file...

The AA from TopGlock seems to be a pretty good deal as well.
They appear to be backordered. I would have prefered an AA kit (due to the slide lock) but never could find one.

I've owned both a Ceiner kit and an original Colt Ace pistol. Both functioned well and shot accurately.I wish I had kept either one but foolishly sold them to fund other interests.I could easily replace the Ceiner kit but that Ace will never be duplicated.YMMV.tom.:(

I ordered tha AA Glock kit from Topglock several years ago. Topglock was great, the kit was stiff, picky about ammo, and one of the mags seemed to work better than the other.

I ordered the Ciener 1911 kit, and I decided to ship the obvious problems up front. I cleaned it thoroughly, and I shoot stingers/velocitors through it almost exclusively. I blast it out with a cleaning spray every couple of hundred rounds, no problems. (I think there is a practical limit as to how many rounds you can honestly expect a blow-back rimfire to function without cleaning.)

I have a Kimber (made by Kimber, not Ceiner) that I run on my full size Kimber. It is accurate but needs to be well lubed and is particular about what ammo you feed it.

If I were to do it over again I'd go with a Marvel based on all I've heard online.

My Kimber 22LR upper has been excellent and extremely accurate.

I had a Kimber and sold it. I had to be very picky about the ammo I shot and also ended up cutting down the hammer spring so the recoil of the slide could cock the hammer. So I had to keep a spare mainspring housing and change that out when I installed the Kimber conversion kit. Not worth it.

Buy a good .22.

I have the Kimber kit on a Kimber procarry frame. Doesn't like to feed standard velocity ammo, hangs one every magazine. Seems to shoot well, but have not had it out on bags with a variety of ammo to prove it yet.

Just shot my Marvel for the second time yesterday, on a RIA GI model. I've put about 300 rounds through it using cheap Remington bulk ammo and I've not had a single misfire, ftf, fte, etc. When I cleaned it today I didn't find much in the way of fouling either. I'm extremely happy with it.

loboloco can any one recommend a kit that will fit a taurus pt 1911? it's a 5 inch govt clone, but i dont know where to start looking

Bought a PT1911 when they first came out. Didn't really need another full size 1911 so put the Ceiner upper on it and use it as a dedicated .22 for speed steel. Couldn't ask for it to be more accurate or more dependable.

For what it's worth My Kimber conversion choked and puked on CCI Blazer but runs flawlessly on CCI Stinger and Minimags. I have to try a few more brands

I put a base model Ceiner on my Mil Spec, runs great and averages 2"@ 25 yds Rem bulk golden bullets and has no problem with std velocity ammo. You fellows with problems feeding and ejecting need to keep in mind that your hammer mainspring is a big part of the recoil absorption in a .22 rimfire. A 17-18lb mainspring will do a lot for feeding and ejecting with a conversion unit like the Ceiner, kimber etc.

I used an 18lb mainspring in my dedicated frame. It helped with the GBs and federal bulk, minimags werent really affected (they ran fine before, they run fine now).

It still chokes every now and then, but not so often that I cant live with it.
