Well, I started with a basic mil-spec High Standard, a little over $400 out the door, slide is silky smooth...

a visit to MidwayUSA's website:

Colt curved mainspring housing - $7.99
Colt wrap around grips - $14.99
Nighthawk Customs Match trigger - $24.95

and a few days later...

This is what I have now. I can't believe how much better the trigger physics are... no fitting was needed for any of these parts... Not sure if I just got lucky or what. Trigger dropped right in. Grips went on with a very slight attitude and the mainspring housing slid right into place, pin set and it looks like it was made for THIS gun... I am happy...

What should be the next upgrades??

You'll soon be looking for what else you can modify. It's addicting!:D I'd look at switching out the grip safety for an Ed brown. You'll enjoy it!

that's a nice Armscor, and you made it nicer...

Yep... it is an Armscor. Says so right on the inspection sheet and the test fire sheet... :D anywho...

I don't know if I want to go the beavertail route... I've never had a problem with "hammer-bite." If I do, I would have to find a G O O D smith here in town... I hear there just aren't many good ones here.

Best part of being a 1911 guy, you can set your gun up exactly the way you want it.

Long, medium, or short trigger, thick, not so thick or slim grips, straight, curved or 'V' mainspring grip. Serrated, choice of 20/25/30 and some cases 40 to the inch checkering of the front grip and/or mainspring housing. Plus a bunch of exotic patterns.

The 1911 can be made to fit virtually any hand of any size. Not other weapon can do it that easily if at all. Then all the variations, beavertail or no beavertail. Sighting options, forward serrations or
not. With a rail or with out.

Extended slide releases of several different types, and of course a bunch of different mag releases. Single safety or ambi.

And the list goes on and on.

One of the real strengths of the 1911 type handgun.

Ain’t choice wonderful.

Well, I got a Wilson Combat Hammer today... next is the beavertail grip safety... and a trip to the 'smith...

Better pic of it's current configuration......

Cheers all...

hey schleprok, i'd be interested if you're wanting to sell off or trade the wooden 1911 grips? Im trying to make my RIA 1911A1 as GI spec as possible and the pachymary grip i have on it obviously dosn't look right

I'd have to have sights I can see. They don't have to be adjustable, they don't have to have a hundred bucks worth of milling machine time to look kewl, they just have to be big enough to see. King's are good, if you can get them, but there is some doubt about the company's status.

I just put a set of Fusion 3 dots sights on my RIA GI and they are really nice for the money, I think they were like $28 from Fusion's ebay auction inc shipping. I took the gun to a smith I use and he put them on for $15, they fit just like they're supposed to and are waaaay better than the GI style sights.
