I recently got a Colt gold cup series 80 NIB and I am having trouble with one of the mags. It WILL NOT feed the last round , I only use factory JHP ammo. Now here is the thing , the one that WONT feed has a small round bump that looks sorta like a weld mark and it always snags the last round preventing it from feeding properly. The one that WORKS is smooth and is stamped COLT and has the MFG number on it. Is this a factory goof on one of the mags or what? Both are stamped with the colt LOGO on the baseplate so I don't think someone put a " gunshow " mag in there. Any ideas?

i would just throw that one in the back of a closet an get 3 or 4 Wilson mags. they work great in my colt

Dunno where that "bump" is that you are describing, but if you can file or grind it off, seems like your problem would go away.

That's the seven round wadcutter mag. The feed lips are a little different and the spring softer on that one. The bump should only be a small stamped dimple. You might be able to use that one for FMJ ammo but it's meant to feed match lead. Just go ahead with Geronimo's suggestion and pick up a couple good mags from Wilson, Colt or McCormick.

i say get you some chip mags, yeah wilsons are nice, but chips are less expensive, and i have never seen or heard of any issues with them. i have 4 of em, and have used many more, no feeding issues at all.

This is actually a stamped dimple, which is the original design and - in your case, ironically - is supposed to help feeding of the last round. But there are so many variations and "preferences" between different 1911s from different makers, even Colt over the years, that some magazines may work in a given gun while others may not. If the gun feeds reliably with the other magazine, retire the first one and get some more like the other one.

That bump is there for a couple of very good reasons...the main one being to prevent the last round from escaping the magazine during recoil when the slide impacts the frame.

The problem is most likely related to a weak mag spring, or excess extractor tension.

If you don't want the mag and it is a real Colt mag with the prancin horse on the bottom, I'll trade you a new Wilson Combat 8 rd mag for it...
