Just started after I put the factory safety back into my Sistema build. I think. New hammer, worked fine. New beavertail, worked fine. New wide safety, worked fine. BROKE the new safety, reinstalled old safety. Sometime during this the hammer started to follow the slide down. Appears that it is going to the half cock notch. I had not noticed the problem before. Had function checked it with new safety, and beavertail grip safety, all was ok. Except for me taking off a little too much on the beavertail notch, thereby disabling the grip safety. New safety is on the way. Where should I be looking to find the problem ? Or should I just wait until the safety gets in and see if it still kicks the hammer to half cock when I rack the slide ?

I would first check to make sure the left finger of the sear spring is still on top of the sear leg.

Start with the simple things.

Here is some good advice I had bookmarked (quoting 1911Tuner):

"Followdown to half-cock is usually either caused by the trigger bumping the disconnect under inertia...with a little hammer bounce caused by using a too-light mainspring and overtweaking/lightening the sear spring tension of the left leg of the spring increasing the odds of the occurrence...or the hammer/sear interface is out of kilter.

A quick test can help determine whether you need to add tension to the sear spring, or if you have a hammer and sear problem.

Pull the trigger and hold it full rearward. Yank the slide back and release it abruptly so that it'll snap forward into battery...or let it fly with the slidestop..whichever way is more likely to produce the followdown. If the hammer stays put, add tension to the center leg of the sear spring, and a bit to the left leg probably wouldn't hurt, nor would ordering a Wolff 23-pound mainspring and installing it.

If the hammer follows with the trigger held, it's likely a hammer and/or sear problem."

Have found that the trigger bow is dragging on the magazine. It seems to also drag when there is no magazine in the gun. If I slow the slide with a finger as I release it, all is ok. If I hold the trigger forward front when I drop the slide, all is ok. I think I have to replace the trigger. Still having trouble getting the slide safety in. Cannot get it to go that last 1/16" into the gun.

What is the proper way to add spear spring tension ?

Got new trigger fitted, new springs all around. The hammer still follows the slide, but only about 25% of the time. What is the proper way to add sear spring tension without breaking the spring ? Also need to figure out the grip safety. May have taken off a little too much when I was fitting it. It is on the spring as it should be, but there is very little tension pushing out on the grip safety.

Assuming the Sistema spring is tempered like a Colt 1911 spring, just bend it by hand.

They are spring tempered, but not like a "brittle" glass-hard spring.

As long as you don't try to bend them 90 degrees right at the bottom of the slot they won't break.

What you need to do is just torque the right lief back another 1/8" - 3/16" or so to put more tension on the grip safety, and the left lief foreword to put more pressure on the trigger bow to stop trigger bounce.

Finally, do the center one if necessary for increased disconnecter/sear pressure. That one will rather quickly raise the trigger pull weight a pound or more if overdone.
