Good morning, i have been reading forums all night trying to find someone with my situation, but anyone with a similar problem has it on a new 1911, mine has about 400 rds through it. i caught the "bug" and bought a slew of parts for my rock island GI slated to be here friday, so last night i took the whet stone attachment to my blackened barrel to polish it back to SS (carefully mind you around the barrel lugs). upon reassembly the slide hangs up on return to battery.
i have read some people accusing ejectors or slide catches, whith the barrel out the slide moves freely, so my issue is somewhere in the barrel, spring assemblies.
my barrel link seemed to be hanging a bit after the polish so i freed it up a bit and it helps, but the strangest thing is it only does this intermittently, i cant recreate the hang up "every" time. sometimes it cycles fine, othertimes it feels "sticky". i have tried oil to no avail, it can still catch. and it only does it when i ride the slide forward slowly, and even then sometimes the weight of the spring will return it to battery. if i pull to half distance and let the slide ride it will never hang (let alone a full back, it returns every time without a hang).
where can i look? if its returning on its own should i let it "polish itself". i hope i didnt ruin the barrel lugs or timing, but if i did i guess its an excuse to get a new barrel a few months earlier than planned.
