Hello again,

I was reading the "WW2-3gun" thread, and didn't want to hijack it. There was mention of using 15 round 1911 mags, and a link was provided, but it looks like the mags in the link are made by 'Promag,' which I have learned to stay away from. However, I recall a few months ago seeing 15 round 1911 mags for sale online that are manufactured by a different company, and seemed to have good customer reviews. (I forget the brand at this point)

Can anyone recommend a brand of 1911 mag that is currently available for sale online, holds 15 rounds or more, that you have personally owned and fired many rounds through, that performs reliably? Not planning on using these mags for 'carry' use, but they'd be great for range and plinking :)

In the long run, I'd much rather use 8 and 10 rounders, than clear a jam every two shots... but a good reliable 1911 mag over ten round capacity would be fun!

Well, they do make 1911's with higher than 8 round capacity, you know.

The grip is a little wider, but you can get capacities of 17+1, 20+1, or 26+1 in 9mm. In 45 it's a bit lower, but still quite a bit better than the 1911 "executive" magazines that were being sold during the AWB.

Yep, I agree that Chip McCormick's are great mags, I own a few, 8 and 10 rounders. I am also aware of the Para's and other double stack 1911s, they don't really interest me so much. If I ever get a double stack .45acp, first ones I go for will be a FNP and maybe a Glock. I really love shooting single stack 1911s though, I own two and love them very much, pretty much my favorite handguns (which is tough to say).

I've seen at least one or two brands that make 15 round mags, so basically just wondering if any High Roaders have purchased and used any of 'em, and if so a little reliability feedback would be greatly appreciated. Again, not for carry use, for recreational plinking. One of the Golden Rules with semi-autos, is 'your semi is only as good as the mag that's in it!'

Cool Vid 1kperday, i enjoyed the dialogue prior to the shooting. Ever have any FTF's with a Para every now and then? I would assume that single stack is more reliable than double stack, but that's an uneducated guess as far as that goes,

Tripp 10-rounders are awesome. I have 7 and 10 round Tripp Cobra mags and couldn't be happier with them.

I've seen 15 rounders online, but I've never even seen one in real life, and never heard from anyone who owned one.

My thoughts are that 10 rounders are about as good as you'll get in a single stack 1911.

I have heard that getting up beyond ten rounds in a single-stack 45ACP magazine can get interesting due to the weight of the ammo stack and the limited amount of room commonly given to the spring.

In any event, the only 1911 magazines that I've seen over 10 rounds in capacity have been drums that can use a snail design.

I've had more malfs with my single stacks than with my P-14, actually (but only with cheap mags). But the only malfunctions of any kind I've ever had with my P-14 were with one 15-round mag that was used, older, and whose spring was starting to wear out. I had a couple FTFs on one outing, asked about it here, ordered some Wolff replacement springs, and am back to 100%. With 6 other mags I've had 0 malfuntions of any kind with factory or my reloads.

EDIT: I recently bought some new Para P14 mags (my others were bought in the 90s when I bought the pistol) and I had to lightly sand some plastic burrs off the followers to smooth them out... but after doing so they're 100% so far as well. My older ones were 100% out of the box (except for the used/worn one I mentioned above).

Wilson, no matter what capacity are hands down the best mag on the market, IMHO. I have used Grams bases and springs on my Springfield double stack 1911 for USPSA shoots with no problems, they up you to 18 rounds.

Colt made (makes?) 20 round mags... they work just fine, but they are darn heavy when loaded.

CMC 10 rders for SS.

Double stack "1911" would be the STI "2011". Not sure of capacity, but I believe their mag source is ACT in Italy, IIRC?
