Hi,

I thought the accuracy of my Norinco 1911 was acceptable for plinking, until today. I shot it with sandbags from 25 yards, and the groups were 4 inches. Trigger isn't great but not too bad, about 5 pounds. Was shooting 230 lead ball in front of 4 grains of Bullseye. Is this acceptable for Mil Spec 1911? Or did I get a lemon?

Btw, my S&W revolver with 38 special did it in less than 2 inches.

4 inch groups are fine, and not bad shooting in my opinion at 25 yards. Your .38 is a milder round, so I'd expect smaller groups.

Where were your shots hitting? The trigger discipline is going to be quite different between the two.

HKGuns,
The center of the groups were about 6 to 7 inches high-right (2 o'clock) from the 1" dot where I was aiming.

HKguns,
I agree. I am a revolver shooter. Only break the 1911 out on occassion for plinking close range. So, my skill in 1911 trigger is probably poor. But in this case, I was using sandbags, my arms were on the bench, my but was sitting on a chair, and I made sure to get a good smooth trigger pull. I felt the sandbag and bench took my shooting skills out of the equation.

Ahhh, read right over the sandbag portion of your post. You are right, you should be out of the equation. Sorry man.

IMHO you are still pulling the trigger so you are not entirely out of the equation. If you are on a true mechanical rest you would know for sure. For a stock nork 4" is not horrible IMHO.

A 1" dot is awefully hard to reference on at 25yrds, especially staring hard at your front sight. A bigger target may actually help.

Try some Hungarian-made RWS 230gr FMJs (black and blaze orange boxed). The spread should decrease a bit.
