1911 on a $600 Budget? Try $400!

Bud's Gun Shop is advertising Tisas 1911-A1 GI for $349, plus ships free.
After adding FFL dealer's fee and background check (and no tax), I could get it for less than $400 total.
Hickok45 approves it on YouTube.

Your price range gets you into the Ruger, Springfield Armory, and Rock Island Armory guns as was mentioned. Nothing wrong with any of them. Additionally with some patience and looking around there are a good number of lightly used 1911 guns out there, don't rule those out.

I picked up a lightly used Springfield Range Officer in .45ACP for $550 shipped. You can get a nice used 1911 for a $600 price point. CDNN has brand new Paras for sale all the time for less than $600.

My Tisas GI has been excellent. If those are as good as mine, $349 is a steal.

This is a bad cell phone picture of my Tisas GI. It has been 100% reliable and is one of my most accurate handguns. I paid $399 for it around three years ago. It has a lot of rounds through it.

My LGS was having trouble moving this NIB RIA double stack 40 caliber. It isn't 45acp or 9mm, and is too big for some people's hands. They were asking $549 for it. It had been in the case for over four months. They sold a DW 357 for me and we worked out a deal. The fit and finish are good. I am looking forward to shooting it for the first time tomorrow morning. (I managed to put a few scratches on it due to my own stupidity, don't blame the gun.)

One of the Philippine M1911s should do nicely.

I recently bought a 3.5" Citadel CS 3.5, and have been VERY happy with it.

Those Philippine guns give you Colt (or better) quality at Norinco prices.

I have no complaints.

+1, RIA 1911FS. If you shoot 1000s of hotter rounds, get spare springs. That is true for all the brands.

Looking good. Your experience and photo confirm Hickok45's YouTube video.

RIA's are also still a good deal.

Wrong gun type. "Budget" and "1911" do not go well together.

Many guys are going to claim their low end 1911's are awesome, never jam and are absolute tack drivers. I've played with these lower end guns and invariably had problems.

I did get lucky once and scored a used Colt XSE for $650.

Ahahahahah tell that to all the RIA owners around America if you want to be laughed at with that statement....

I wanted a standard GI 1911 in my collection and did not want to spend top dollars....with my friend we got a couple of GI RIA on sale at Cabela's for less than $400.

They have been phenomenally reliable from the get go not even one, I repeat, not even one jam since the first shot (tested several ammo brands).

The slide to frame fit feels like running on bearings, very good trigger....coat finish however is not top notch with few tiny imperfection and blemish here and there but in my view that adds to the character of the pistol.

The only update I done is putting diamond cut checkered wood grips, it looks much more expensive than it is.

It does exactly with a 1911 is supposed to do, reliably spitting 230 gr. 45 cal. ball ammo downrange with accuracy, I do not plan to run a competition with it and for SD work there are and I have better tools.....but my 1911 it's a blast at the range.

I am going to 2nd my Tisas Post. Mine is also in the category of most accurate guns I own with 230 grain ball ammo.

I had an RIA basic GI, and liked it, worked fine, but I wanted some 'upgrades' and after pricing it out, I bought a Taurus PT1911AR. Taurus haters are gonna hate, but it fires everything including my reloads, something my G21 didn't do reliably. I also have a PT 145, and it has been utterly reliable, as it should be, it's my main CCW.
I paid $650 for the PT1911AR, but the rail less versions go for $450-500, and still have :

Ambi safety
Full beavertail
Commander hammer (not the 'skeletionized' ones, a real Commander hammer with circular hole)
Full length guide rod
Frontstrap checkered
Flat mainspring housing checkered
Front serrations (I didn't really want them, but some do.)

Only thing I added was a 1911 length trigger; I like the longer 1911 style over the 1911A1.

The best value in a 1911, IMHO.

The Sr1911 and R1 are also excellent, but run a little bit more.
