There are, no doubt, USMC issued examples with arched MSH and the like,
I'm fairly certain there were no U.S.M.C. *marked* 1911s until the recent Kimber and Colt's issues.

USMC *contract* guns for sure, but not marked as such beyond serial # range and maybe the odd *inspection stamp*.

Fortunately, Navy87guy's pistol is on the right formed frame and the particular markings and serial # are a matter of record as is his Uncle's blood-line, Service-connected provenance.

Good time for this USMC gun, I guess.

Retro-fitted a recent Colt .38 Super (02991-1) with surplus USGI parts to replicate one of the 200 (late-WW2) .38 Super 1911A1s that Colt manufactured for ETO OSS operatives.

Two Colt .38 Super OSS 1911A1s, which a few years back auctioned off for $18,000-plus ea.

My gaping ejection-ported attempt @ replicating an OSS 1911A1

Ah, terminology issue here.
Until 1947, there was only the War Department and the Navy Department. All USMC issue was purchased by DepNav. Naval Contracts appear to stop requiring the Navy Property stamping around WWI, probably to expedite deliveries.
Reading through the various Navy Contracts of the era are a bit of a rabbit hole. Been trying to discover if/when DepNav started accepting items mad to QMC/War Department standards, rather than Navy-specific ones.

I had a fun time going down the rabbit-hole looking into OSS dart-launchers.

Thanks for that.

Are you going to try to replicate the dart and launcher mechanisms? THAT - would be a fun project. Sure is a pity that GI surplus guns aren't dirt cheap anymore.

lol ... Ah yes, the Bigot! A concept every bit as medieval as the Luftwaffe's late-war practice of dropping lengths of heavy chain onto Allied bomber formations.

Unless some fine HR forum member has a 1/4" crossed cannon arsenal stamp I can borrow ;), I'll probably just leave the .38 Super as she is now. Truth be told, if not its' stock Eastern Bloc-colored grip panels, looooong trigger & flat mainspring housing, I never would have thought to fiddle with it in the first place.

True that, those now pricey GI surplus guns ... long gone are those days when a guy could have had a surplus 1911A1 shipped to his front porch for somewhere around $30.
