So I was making a handout with weapons-related info and I needed a cover image.

What do you guys think?

I'm sure some of you will notice, so let me clarify in advance. The reason that the lefty shooter does not have an ambi safety is he is holding my 1911 (which I have since sold).

I used the first image on the cover, but I figured that I would show you both.

Gun related info for what ? College project ? Training program ? CCW?

I would make the picture pertain to the general theme of the project. If it is a pro gun/pro CCW related info, I would show picture of a firearm in use protecting someone.
Kind of like glaco's magazine ad showing a man drawing a Kimber SIS 1911 from a galco holster to defend his self from a guy armed with a rambo knife.

I dont mean to complicate it, but what is the handout relating to in the gun world ?

Sapper,
I hope you don't mind, but I don't really want to get into the specifics. It wasn't a picture relevant to the material, other than the fact that they were both firearms related.

General,
Thanks for your input. I guess to each his own. The lighting was intentional and I like it. As for the watch, I agree with you and wanted to crop most of it out, but its owner wanted it to stay so I humored him.

Anyway, I'm happy with how they came out and thought that someone else might like to see them. (Or maybe not.)

It's a tough call. As to how the pic looks it's definitely cool and depends on if you like the lighting or not. Without details it's tough to say if it's an appropriate pic for your handout or not.

So then I guess this bit in the OP:

What do you guys think?

Was some bait and switch...

The fist two responses were legitimately trying to provide constructive criticism like (it appeared) you asked. And it was constructive.

Neither of those pictures strike me as good cover material; poor lighting

Yeah, the lighting has screwed up the color balance, too. See what I mean:

Original:

Photoshopped:

The lighter color in the PSed copy bring out the JPEG compression artifacts that are already present in both original pictures. I'm going to assume it was photobucket that did that. They're neat pictures and all, but they're not really something I'd want to use on a cover of something, for a variety of reasons.

You are correct that PhotoBucket limited the size and quality of the photo. The original is much larger.
The color change was caused by the lighting, which was a fire. The complete cover also had flames along the bottom and part of one side of the picture. I would post it, but at this point I think I would just be digging my hole deeper.
I guess I thought it came out better than it did.

That

index finger is the first to fly off the gun when shot holding it that way .
May want to get someone with experience for your photo shoot holding it .
Lighting is fine with me , if its meant to be at night ?
Hard to comment much more since your being so secretive .

Jaeger :)

I'm not sure what you mean about his index finger. He has a ton of experience (20 years NYPD, NYPD instructor, and instructs a bunch of rifle and pistol classes..) There may be something wrong with his grip, but with my limited experience I wouldn't correct him. What is wrong with it?

I'm glad that you think the lighting is ok. I don't mean to seem secretive and it wasn't anything overly exciting. I just wanted input on the picture unrelated to the details of the information. In retrospect I should have left out that it was a cover image.

The lighting was intentional and I like it.

OK, but since you ask....

What do you guys think?

I think the pictures are too dark...about all I see is big, meaty hands and a dark, blurry 1911 with uneven lighting.

Sorry, ......you asked.
