I came across a deal on a 1911 that I almost can't pass up. It's a S&W 5" with the SS finish and crimson trace laser grips. Its NIB and has not had any rounds though it.
I really want the gun but it looks like I might get into a situation where I might need the money in the near future. If i buy the gun and put a couple hundred rounds through it and ended up needing to, could i resell it for $850-$875? Obviously we cant see the future but I just wanted to get everyone's opinions on this.

The responsible person in me says don't buy the gun until you are sure you can afford it.

However if you are 23 and have no one dependent on you for financial support, go for it! The worst that could happen is that you end up out on the street in debt. And if that happens you could probably get a job at McDonald's and work your way up.

Welcome to THR.

My financial advise is don't buy anything you cannot afford. Aside from that, do what you want. You will not get what you want out of it if you go to sell it, and even less if you NEED to sell it. ;)

Im am young and have no one that depends on me. The reason I ask is that i have the $$$ to spend right now but am thinking about buying a motorcycle for cheap that needs some work. I do not have financial troubles that i can forsee only another opportunity. If I do end up buying the bike, I would probably have to sell the gun to pay for it to get fixed and would not want to be out much money on the 1911.

welcome to thr. i would say get it, and worry about the bike later but of course that is the answer you are gonna get on here. if this ws a bike forum then you would probally get the opposite answer. i have and love my bike, but they come no where close to the way i love my guns.

Buy the 1911, finance a new bike. Payments on a mo-mo can be cheap and you can build credit at the same time. This will help you buy more 1911's in the future because you will need to. It is a disease.

Disclaimer: Do not take my advice. I am sick and anything I say is most likely the disease talking.

Don't buy a money pit bike, buy the gun. I have like 70 guns, and only 5 motorcycles! So don't listen to me! Here's my latest build up bike wise.

If you already have means of transport then buy the gun....

If your walking, buy the bike.

Thanks for everyones insight. I understand I shouldn't buy something if i can forsee myself having to sell it. The thing is I really wanted to get a 1911 and there is a rebate on the smith's that lasts til the end of the month. I figured maybe i could buy the gun put a couple hundred rounds through it and if i needed to sell it. I was hoping i wouldnt be out too much money after the $100 rebate.

I fired one of the S&W 1911 clones.

Boy-o-boy, those S&W guys must have had to work hard to get it to eject fully 50% of all spent cases against the shooter's head, or within two inches thereof.

Yessirree. Everybody should own one once.

That way he'll know he never wants to own another one.
