I have a Taurus PT1911 AR. I have shot 200 hundred rounds through it since I got it. A little under half the times I shoot a round it will:

1) Fire the the round
2) Eject the empty
3) Chamber a new round
4) Only cock the hammer 1/3 back.

Does anyone know why this would happen? I am trying really hard not to send it into the bottomless pit that is Taurus CS.

Thanks!

By ejecting the empty and chambering the new round - that tells me the slide did push the hammer all the way back. The hammer is following the slide when the slide goes forward. The hammer stops at half cock.

I am not familiar with the Taurus, but if it is much the same as a Colt or 1911a1, etc there are two likely possibilities.

1) the sear spring needs more tension. That is the multi leg leaf spring under the main sping housing in the grip. The left leg needs to be slightly bent more to put a bit more tension on the sear to hold the hammer. Easy to do.

2) The hammer and sear engagment is too light. Hold the unloaded gun in firing position with the hammer back. Using your other hand push forward on the hammer. If it holds, the engagment is OK. If it does not, you must replace the hammer or sear or both. This is job that requires experience and skill to properly fit the parts.

3) There may be other causes, but are remote such as a disconnector problem.
