1911 question

SN 903xx, good condition. says Colt's PT. F.A. MFG CO on left side of slide. What is value of pistol ? Is this suitable for home defense? Is it too old to get some better sights? Thanks

The value is hard to determine even as a ballpark without a photo. There are more aftermarket parts available for the 1911 than for all the other handguns ever made. Of course, if it's in collector condition or rarity you may want to leave it as is. Snap a photo?

Colt 90300 was made in 1914.

Dollar value could be from several hundred to several thousand depending on originality and condition. Change the sights on a pristine 1914 gun and watch the value decrease by 90%. Even a nice US Army arsenal refurbish for WW II or Korea would be worth as much as or more than a new gun. But if Bubba has been working on it, resale value is low and you could treat it like you wanted to with no harm done to history. In which case, it is hard to beat a .45 for home defense.

Thanks for the info. I've tried to attach a pic Inspectors mark, horse on slide, 1913 date all seem to confirm 1914 age. Gun is maybe 50% condition? Not pristine at all. I appreciate the help. My carry gun is a 380 Colt Gov, but I'm pretty dumb about the .45. Other than I sure like to shoot it
