So pretty typical ftrtb. Have a nice dent about 1/8" from case mouth. Happens on a full loaded 8 round mag from slide lock sometimes on 7 rounds loaded and if it doesn't do it you can feel it.
Factory and 3 new chip McCormick mags.

Wilson combat mags fix the issue for now.

I tried to tune the extractor, changed barrel links one and two sizes either way to no avail.

Ramp is polished..

Any other ideas???

http://www.topgunsupply.com/check-mate-.45acp-7rd-blue-gi-full-size-1911-magazine.html ... these are out of stock for months on end, but as far as i know the only 1911 mags currently produced that conform to the control feed design that makes problems like yours end. If you dont have one, get a cheap fish scale, pop a 45 acp primer out, file/hack a notch across the head, and run a string through the primer pocket, through the notch, and hold the slide tight to a bench, place the case up to the extractor, and measure the force to pull it in. A cheap extractor tension gauge, thats pretty reliable. I think its supposed to be 2.2 lbs or so to pull in. Those are the two easiest problems to solve, so i hope one works. goodluck.

How old is this pistol. If it is new I would call Ruger. They have a very good customer service reputation. I did have a problem similar to yours after I attempted to tune the extractor on mine because I didn't like where it was throwing brass. I changed the extractor back to how it came from the factory & my issues went away. 1911 Tuner has some how to's in the gunsmithing subforum here IIRC. You might try sending him a PM.

well i went with a #2 sized link and took a bit of tension off the extractor and it helped a bit but you can still feel it when you drop the slide release.

it is hitting the ramp on the frame, then coming up and hitting the barrel ramp, then entering the chamber where the slide is moving forward to fast and causing it to 3-point lock and putting a dent in the case about 1/8" below case mouth.

i tried a #1 link but i was not getting a good lockup.

i might try to change the COAL. i was trying from short to long and ended up pretty short before i changed the link and extractor tension. might re work from max magazine coal.

I read some of 1911tuners posts and im not gonna lie he is way past my level on 1911's i almost cant process all the information. just trying what i know and a bit of what i read from his posts.

So im sending the gun back to ruger to fix. here is what i typed in the description of problem. I'll update this when i get the gun back.

The gun is 3-Point Jamming ( Failure to Return To Battery ) quite often about once every magazine 70% of the time on the first 2-3 out of magazine, but has done it at all mag levels. It does it from slide drop and while shooting. It locks up pretty good and leaves a dent about 1/8” from case mouth on every jammed round. If it does not jam on slide drop from slide release you can feel it contact something on the way to the chamber which is a rough feeling along with a good hesitation.
I have tried 3 different brands of ammo, the first is Winchester 230 grain FMJ, the second Ultramax 230 Gr. Round nose Lead( my most common ), third is a few mags of Armscor 230 gr. FMJ from a friend. It jammed the worst on the Winchester ammo but jams with all types tried.
The gun is around 500-600 Rounds shot now with cleanings average of every 50 rounds. The cleaning depends on round count at shoots.
I have tried the different ammo above and Ruger factory mag along with a few Chip McCormick mags and Wilson combat mags ( 47D’s ), cannot tell a difference as they all jam the same.
I am sending the gun dirty as it almost always jams on every mag after about 30-50 rounds. It has had about 50 though it now.
I suspect it is “ riding the link” and also needs some feed ramp work. Also if you have time or it can be covered I would like you to look at the barrel as it is one of the roughest I have seen and leads up quite quickly. I have slugged it and the bore diameter is good .451-.4515. I know its stainless and it machines hard. But take a look and see if it is up to your standards. Don’t hesitate to give me a call with any questions, I understand things happen and I’m a huge Ruger fan so you will not get any negative reaction from me.

Thanks,
*******

If Wilson Combat mags fix the issue and are reliable you have your answer. Many 1911's that cost far more than your Ruger are picky about Mags. If you've found the right ones and they feed all the different types of ammo you run, there is no reason to tinker with anything else. I've seen stock Springfield TRP's that would only run with Wilsons, I've seen brand new Dan Wesson Specialists that had issues with anything but Kimber Pro Tecs. My Kimbers loved the Pro Tecs, none of the above guns would run with their OEM supplied mags with issues.
