What I'm interested in doing is removing the Firing Pin Block FPB on my Taurus PT1911. Not that its having any issues, I'm modified most of the internals
STI - Hammer, Strut, Sear
Kimber - Match Trigger
Wilson - Bulletproof sear spring, 19lb mainspring
And it has a pretty decent pull. Guessing around 3.5 - 4lbs. Just as a test, I'd like to remove the FPB. I know the gun will fire with it removed, and possibly if dropped.
But what I'm looking for is long term usage. IF the plunger is removed from the slide, that leaves basically a hole in the slide that leads up into the firing pin.
So my question is, anyone who's done this before, does the gun foul quicker? Any negatives to removing it? And yes I know its a factory safety system design to prevent the firing pin releasing if dropped. Personally if you drop a loaded gun with hammer pulled, chances are you shouldn't be handling a gun, or in a manner that might get accidentally dropped.
Anyway, enough ranting about that. But the question stands. Will it foul the firing pin quicker, or cause any long term wear issues?
Thanks in advance
