my wife has a colt gold cup that during disassembly will have the slide stop get stuck.

What seems to be happening is the slot in the slide stop is too wide or the plunger to the right of it is to narrow and the plunger is sliding into the slot preventing it from being removed without use of more tools.

are there any parts you could recommend that don't have this problem, this is the only 1911 I've ever disassembled that has had this happen.

Remove it while giving it upward pressure as you pull/push it out.

Thanks for the tip but I already do that, the wife has a little more trouble with it. She is a left handed shooter so I had been considering getting her an extended slide stop so she could reach it easiere with her trigger finger, so I figure I try ti fid one not so prone to the problem in question.

most slide stops I've seen don't do this.

I think the slide stop is defective, allowing it to come down too much and the plunger to slide into the slot. The plunger shouldn't even be in line with the bottom of the slot, it should be well below it.

I'm thinking so too, I'll give colt a call and see if it can be handled without sending the whole gun in

There are 3 good ways to get the slide forward for a lefty. All are better than an extended slide stop.

If the stop is riding low enough to allow the plunger to get into the slot, it's a bad stop or a badly machined frame. There's no reason to send the entire gun in.....unless the frame is badly machined at the slide stop notch.

Either the slidestop slot is too wide, allowing the plunger to become trapped in it, or the plunger tube is loose at the front. Check it for up/down play. It doesn't take much. Also, if the tube is damaged...crushed...it won't let the slidestop cam the plunger into the tube and will hang the slidestop.

And being a Colt, most often the slide stop is dimensionally excellent and the plunger tube improperly staked.

Sad, but all too often true...and it's not just Colt. I've run into slidestops getting locked up twice in the last 3 months...and both times it was due to a loosely staked tube...at the front. The "wiggle' was barely noticeable, but it was apparently just enough to cause a problem. Staking the tube cured it.
