Having been a polimer gun guy, and after shooting my dads 1911 colt and kimber, I decided to get one for myself. I think I got a good deal on a 1911 colt gold cup trophy. Frist thing i am mastering is field stripping. Thanks to the wonderful world of youtube, there are more then enough videos to watch and learn. However I have notice that pulling out my slide stop is extremly difficult. Is this typical??? My ruger P95dc is extremely easy to open the slide slightly and push out the slide stop. The colt is very tough. It seems that the issue is with the "plunger tube" that either locks the safety up, or the slide stop in place. Will this break in, or can i replace this with slightly less strict unit. I like to field strip my guns at the range with little to no tools, and this is just a PIA to get out. :cuss:

It'll get better. Are you pushing it form the rear, pushing the pin?

I don't pull mine. I push it from behind, once it's past the plunger tube detent it should come out easy. But it may still be tight. A tight SS is a good thing.

Hose it with CLP to help it slide out. 1911's take some practice.

(new Colt pics???)

Well I know tighter is typically a good thing, espeically with machined parts, but this slide stop is just a pia to get out. Yes I have tried to push from back side and pull from front side still a pain. It is in "Like new" condition.. no wear marks, owner said only a few rounds thru it. He has too many 1911's to keep them all, so he was selling it.
