i have a armscor 1911 slide that i fit to a essex frame and the slide is to short by .140 at the back of the frame and th ejector stix out of the back of the slide by .070 has anyone had this with armscor slides and what did you do to fix it
thanks Ray:confused::banghead:

You can fix it by lowering your standards. If it helps: Looks good from my house:neener:
Umm... buy another slide?:uhoh::barf:
Okay, but seriously. Everything I've read has indicated that slide is known for that problem, and that it would be cheaper to buy another.

yes i know buy a slide i am trying to but cant spend to much right at the moment so it will have to work the way it is thanks Ray

I guess that would work, but wouldn't that mean he would be either stuck with that slide or paying again because the next slide would be too long?

pisarki,

The problem is most likely the barrel, not the slide. Your lower lugs have been "set back" farther than typical, causing the slide to move with the lug cut.

Either replace the barrel or, as others have said, have the rear of the slide cut.

... then, all of a sudden, I'm struck with an amazing case of deja-vous.
Sounds eerily similar to a 1911 building project I read about; and the guy bought (I think) these parts, and originally had problems with an Auto Ordnance barrel. Then went with a Kart. After he finished I think he still had this problem.

i check the slide and it is short by .140 in oal so i don't think it is the barrel locking lugs
but thanks for the help and i did check that thanks Ray

i did call armscor and they said that all of there guns are as he said buffed to fit the slide to the frame so i think it is the slide thanks Ray

Check the barrel to be sure the problem is not in the barrel feet. But if everything else is OK and the gun works, I am not sure the problem is worth worrying about.

FWIW, when 1911 type guns are made at the factory the slide and frame are polished down together, and you can do the same thing if it is worth bothering. If the slide is too short, you need to grind down the frame to match. Then you grind down the extractor to match the slide, polish the ground places, and have the whole gun reblued or just cold blue the bare spots.

Well, it's not REALLY important if the slide is short, you can always blend the frame to it. [yes, I've really read that] Sounds like Armscor found what Sarco used to buy. :) What IS more important might be how does the extractor fit in the CHAMBER. Where/how does it hold a round. ??

BTW I have seen wide variances in both slides and frames, and variations in their matings.
