Hi, I purchased a new slide and after fitting the barrel and putting the slide onto the frame with the recoil spring and slide stop, the slide sits 2-3mm forward of the end of the back of the frame .it is not flush as it should be on a normal 1911 with the end frame and slide being even. does anyone know what problem this may be.?

I think this has something to do with how the barrel lugs lock up in relation to the cuts in the slide for the lugs. Someone better versed in the 1911 can tell you for sure, but I had a Colt Commander that was like this too.

Slide prob.

I have an AO .45 that does the same thing. I hate to try to change it though, because it is accurate and reliable. I hope somebody with experience answers your thread. I have wondered if a shorter link would cure it.

I'm not a gun smith, but I've tried to switch the slides around and mix match parts with my Springfield and Kimber, the Kimber Slide won't fit on to the Springfield, the Springer Slide will fit on the Kimber, but it looks goofy and there's excessive play, not all parts are 100% interchangeable; guide rods, slide locks and other misc items will interchange, but slides are not all interchangeable.

The slide's forward travel is stopped by the slidestop crosspin and the lower barrel lug. If the lug's radius that the pin fits into is cut too deep...or if the pin location is too far forward...or if the lower lug is located too far rearward, the slide will ride too far forward.

It could also be an out of spec condition in the rear of the frame or the rear of the slide. Look at the thumb safety when it's in the On-Safe position. Is there a substantial gap at the forward edge of the paddle? If there is, the problem is with the slidestop crosspin to lower lug relationship. If there's not,
the problem is with the slide and frame specs/dimensions at the rear.

No. A shorter link won't cure it, but it might cause all sorts of other problems.

Thank you Tuner for the excellent information I will check for the problems you suggested Thanks again.
