What's happened to 1911forum.com ?? Second night in a row I can't access the site.

Yes. I just tried accessing 1911forum for about the 4th time today and couldn't. Now I know it's not just my connection.

Also have been having problem getting there too. About ready to give up. They must have low band width

just got on and there was this post:
Members,
The server is not acting right after a recent Linux update. I've contacted other admins who are having the same issues with the latest patch. I'll be trying a few things over the weekend to try to correct the problem, but it's likely forum access will be spotty over the next few days. I apologize for the trouble.

Good riddance.

Thanks.

I haven't been able to get on there today, either. This happened about a week ago too, I think. Was only down for a day or less. I never knew why.

Ok...I'm perplexed. To the people who say "good riddance" or +1 to "good riddance"...what do you mean? You don't like 1911's or you don't like 1911forum.com?

Whatever your reason, I'm not judging you in any way. Just curious. If you don't like 1911's or 1911forum.com, that is no problem with me.

I'm supposing that the "good riddance" is directed toward the 1911forum.com.
If that is true, I'm just wondering why you don't like 1911forum.

Thanks.

Both 1911 forums seem to work fine for me.

What's with the 'good riddance'? They have both been very good sources of information in my experience.

I am a huge fan of 1911s. It's all I carry. That site, however, is run like a tin pot dictatorship. You have to walk on eggshells or they will rudely threaten to boot you from the site. I got booted for merely quoting another member, and saying something like "+1" regarding the quote. The guy I quoted got booted too. Bunch of tyrants over there. They are on a power trip.

haven't been on on there in awhile (in fact i had to go back and make sure that was the site i gave up on before i posted this)

i left b/c at that time at least, the good sensible folks that posted there while more numerous tended to be out shouted by the vocal and rude minority. i specificly received a number of PMs that caused me to simply walk away.
normally i would have taken such things to teh mods, but that was also about the time i really started posting here on a regular basis so...

might go back and see how things are now, it having been over a year since my last visit.

Have a lot of friends there but enjoy:

http://forum.m1911.org/index.php? - more of an international flavour without the extreme right wing political crap.

And for the best of the best with civil commentary:

http://handgunsandammo.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=fnhipower

Alas while it is down right now for stupid anti-American content along with Grade two level english where the "F" word is there only to complete a sentence:

canadiangunnutz.org

Hate to say it but some of the threads are....well embarassing in the extreme. Guess it is there to counter super religeous right wing militia, nuke the world commentary out of the US but I doubt the average IQ could figure that far ahead.

Stay Safe

I was able to get on.
Although I don't post as much as I used to
Things have changed
I think I'll be hangin around here more
Welcome aboard. Much nicer crowd here. The Moderators moderate, and don't run the place like their personal dictatorship. It makes for a much more open and comfortable environment where real dissent is allowed, and conversation is more enriching as a result, event though they do have rules of conduct. They are reasonable rules, though, and they let you know when you are pushing against them.
