Don't give up yet

Hopefully the forum will go on. It is being worked on, no promises.

Take care,
Art

I hate to see it go, but I understand Jason's reasons. I've been hanging out there for a while. Oh well, there still is the THR and forum.m1911.org

m1911.org is run by John Caradimas from Greece.

Works for me.

I have an answer from a guy named Jason Phelps, last Monday, 3/21/05:

JammerSix.

Thanks for writing and letting me know. [Un]Fortunately my reasons for setting up this website was to allow the members the freedoms not had at other gun boards. And I feel asking him to remove his Avatar or removing it for him is against my goal. If he says anything slanderous/prejudicial on the other hand that may be dealt with. I hope you understand.

However, I note that the title of the emails is "Re: 1911 Owners Group Contact Us Form", so while Phelps's .sig says that he's an admin for 1911og.org (may not be the same) it looks like the board I'm thinking of is 1911 Owner's Group.

So many boards, so little time... :D

Not much of a loss as far as I'm concerned... :scrutiny:

Some good folks posted there, but, IME, there was way too much uneven "moderation", cliquishness and outright favortism for it to've become one for my bookmarks. :uhoh:

Maybe they finally just banned everyone.

Actually I am sad to see it go, there was a wealth of information there.

I'm sorry to see it shut down...I'm still holding out hope it'll soon come back under new ownership. It was a wealth of information (both real and opinionated), and for folks like me who were just getting into 1911's, it was particularly informative and useful. And while I've read varying accounts on the moderators, my experiences on their boards were always pleasant, entertaining and worthwhile.

While I don't have experience with either one, there are a couple of other 1911 forums around -- http://www.1911og.org/forum/ and http://forum.m1911.org/ -- but a quick visit to each gives me the impression that they're just pale shadows of the 1911forum. Maybe one will take up the migration of displaced 1911 owners and really take off. Maybe...

This is so sad. First FNHiPower goes down, now 1911Forum!! I was GunNut and a contributing member for 4 years. I really liked the design of that board. But I did dislike all the stupid posting restrictions. What a shame...

Wow this is a shame. I have a Colt NRM I just bought off a gentleman on this board. I was looking forward to spending this weekend overdosing on the archives at 1911forum, browsing at parts catalogs, and planning out the buildup for my gun. This is sad. :(

I will agree with the above poster though on post restrictions. I always thought the board owners were way too paranoid in their prohibition of listing guns for sale. If the forum comes back to life I hope guns will be allowed to be listed.

I too am sad to see it gone. Hopefully it may come back in some form. Some may not have cared for it for their reasons, but there are many gun boards out there, but only one like 1911forum.

I joined after he stopped taking contributions -- I never understood why he quit, but I would gladly contribute to the site to keep it up and running. How much does it cost to operate a fourm like the 1911? Do they obtain their revenue from ads?

I thought about looking into taken it over. I have the means and ability to do it, but I am not sure I would have the time. I do not know how contact Jason for a few basic questions though.

Isn't m1911.org the one with the guy who has an avatar with a swastika in it? The one run by Jason Phelps?

Hello everyone, Jason Phelps here.

I've let the decision be up to my staff members here. One thing that I've strived for is to let everyone express themselves the way they should beable to in our free country. I did not see an avatar as a threat. I do however apologize for any offense, threat or any unwelcome feelings that were or could have been felt by this. The issue has been taken care of by my staff and I will personally see that if it does happen again it will promptly be taken care of.

Although this is no excuse, I am relatively new to managing this type of website, and the entire thing has been a learning experience with many mistakes made to learn from. I strive to make EVERYONE who visits my site feel welcome and happy. And if that means making one person angry to save the rest it is something I have to do.

With that I hope every 1911 fan that comes across this will stop in for a visit and stay for a while if they so wish. 1911forum.com was definately an amazing collection of information and something that will be missed by all, it will be years before 1911OG is even close to the same, but the staff and core members consider everyone family and we are a friendly bunch.

Again I apologize for any harm done. Hope to see you on the forum!

-Jason Phelps

I literally spent hours on that forum reading and learning. It was the best collection of 1911 information I've come across. The contributors were generally informed and polite. I sure hope they find a way to resurrect it. Wouldn't mind being a paying contributor if that's what it took.
