1911's & S&W Revolvers

As time goes by and the older I get it seems the only interest in handguns I have anymore is 1911's and Smith revolvers. I tried the tactical game and the polymer plastic fantastics but as time went on I found all that a bit wanting and the pride of ownership just wasn't there. Is there anymore out there that feels the same?
Yup.

I carried a Glock 17 for several years as the mandatory duty sidearm. It was okay. It worked as one would expect, put the fired rounds right where I was intending and so forth. It was light to carry all day. However, Glocks have no soul. They have all the personality of a claw hammer. (Claw hammers are perfect for driving and removing nails, by the way.)

I currently carry a Colt Commander (LW) in .45 ACP as my daily sidearm. I do carry it daily. No one notices. There are several more in my collection - not all Commanders, but some commercial Government Models and several 'surplus' Government pistols.

And Smith & Wesson revolvers. I only have one without a barrel pin. I bought it for duty use with the Border Patrol in 1980 or so. It is a 581 (blue, fixed sights) L frame revolver in .357 Magnum. And lots of others. .38 Hand Ejectors form the bulk of them, but I've got one in .44 Special and a couple in .45 AR.

One of my dearest friends is a stocking Glock dealer. He constantly gushes about Glocks and knows all the model numbers and even serial number sequences. He kids me unmercifully about my 'obsolete' Government Models and revolvers. When it get too much to stand, I hand him one of my old Smiths. He clasps it to his bosom and his face takes on the shine of a religious experience. (A good one.)

Kind of reminds me of when my two buddies and I took a CCW class together. I think the instructor had a Glock available if someone didn't bring a gun to qualify with. Each of us had a 1911 of some sort (a Kimber, an AMT Hardballer, and my Colt Combat Commander). When the instructor came around to check out our guns, he said something about "old school" and then commented on how much he liked the Kimber and my Combat Commander.

In my case, it seems to have become a byproduct of getting older / remembering when / desire to travel my own path.

Am told that it is normal.

I have no more striker igniting pistols. Have a 1911, GP100 3" .357 (shooting even .38 +p is a piece of cake), Blackhawk in .44.

These cover all the bases I ever care to round in my remaining days. :)

glocks are nice but I wonder if they will be around 100 years from now when we are buying 1911's and 357 revolvers.
