Hey guys, been lookin around and am in the market for a nice 1911. I am not real up to date with the 1911's but got to looking and seen Springfield's "ils". Now in my opinion...this is awful and has made me completely drop looking at any of the Springfield 1911's. Now, that's just my opinion and I'm all for safety and all...but these locks in these guns have just ruined it for me. I refuse to buy a rifle, handgun, shotgun...anything with one of these internal locks. Some may say "that's your loss" or think I'm crazy. There is some Smith & Wesson revolvers I'd love to have, but with those locks...I'm looking in the used market. Ok, ok, ok, Sorry about the big rant.

What I'm getting to is...What major "brands" are still making quality 1911's without those awful locks?

P.S. There is no need for anyone to reply and argue with me about the locks or take up for them...if you like them, GREAT! Again, I'm all about safety, but geez lol!

As far as I know, only Springfield and Taurus attempt to put any form of lock on their 1911-pattern pistols.

Springfield does have the ILS, but it is in the mainspring housing and can easily be replaced. The Taurus 1911 has a lock in the hammer. Those are the only two 1911's that have an internal lock. That leaves everybody else without a lock.

lol thanks guys! Now I can go to bed and not have the locks on my mind and rest a little more peaceful.

Given your preferences, you may also want to consider the safety system Kimber installs. It has less than a stellar reputation. It has been know to fail and lock up the gun like the reported failures on the S&W IL system.

One Ed Brown series 70/80 firing pin = non functional firing pin safety

I'm not aware of problems occurring in the Springfield locks and they don't mar the looks of the gun like the SW revolver locks. But, as others have said, they are easily removed.
