I would not build a new one from scratch unless you are an experienced shooter or have a very strong knowledge of the platform....

If you want something that is not mainsteam, has tons of style and quality, and won't break the bank...I highly suggest looking at fusion firearms.

Oh jesus, did not "search" enter your mind? "Search" is a great thing. Now you are going to hear a multitude of derivative arguments. Just do it.

Sorry to be rude, but how many times can this question be asked?

There must be 1000's of pages if you search!
I have to ask, why do you bother to come into a thread, read it, and then not contribute at all if the topic of the thread bothers you so much? Why dont you spare yourself the trouble and the rest of us the headache of reading your blathering posts that are off topic and have no useful contribution to the thread. Do you just like to see your username on the screen, or what?

It would be helpful if you stated what the 1911 would be used for. Range queen, IDPA or other gun games, Home Defense, Concealed Carry, etc.

You might be able to find a NIB Colt M1991A1 for that or a tad more. A nice, basic stock Colt 1911. If you can't afford that, and you want a NIB gun, a Springfield is probably a good choice. I like the Colts because they use the best quality internals, very little MIM parts, and they are made in the good old USofA! Colts also hold there value better than any other brand. Many Springfields are made in Brazil.

Kimber is OK as well, although their QC seems to have fallen off a bit of late. I had a problem with mine initially, but Kimber sent me some new parts, which I replaced and it seems to be working now. My opinion is if you are gonna spend the extra money for a semi-customized Kimber, might as well get the Colt.

Dan Wesson seems to be well though of as well, but a new one is definitely out of your stated price range.

Now, if you are willing to buy used, that opens other possibilities. You could get a nicer gun, already "broken in" and you may just need to replace a spring or two!

Well thanks to everyone would made positive comments. And for all you who said use the search bar.......thanks i guess.....I knew a little about them from general knowledge and peeking in on threads every once in a while, I just wanted to know out of those 3-4 choices what everyone thought.

Get a Springfield, Kimber or STI. The prices are all the same unless you go basic Springfield but, save your money cause one pistol smith job and part to add can push that pistol up and way past what you could have spent on what you wanted in the first place.

I like 1911 threads, and 1911s , and new 1911 fans. That's why I read the posts in this forum.

For me the SA Black Stainless Target was my first 1911, got me into tinkering with 1911 parts and led to the purchase of four additional 1911 pistols over the past few years. Latest is a 9mm Les Baer PII.

I also reload, and play various games at my club. Carry some. 1911 was the gun I avoided at first, but continued threads on forums with folks singing their praises, and seeing them in action at the range led to my transition to them. Now they are my favorite.

I told myself that I should have started with a less expensive gun at first, then tried to convince myself that I should have waited to get a Baer or Brown as my first 1911. Reality is what it is. I'm happy with where I am and how I got here.
