I know very little about these guns. This one appears to be in fine condition with a near perfect bore and >90% original finish. All matching numbers except the magazine. WWII GI bring back with the GI's name and number inscribed on the holster. We got this from his family along with a photocopy of his dog tag. Anyone care to tell us about it?

I don't know much to tell you other than what is written on the gun itself.
It is a 1917 DWM Artillery (Lang Pistole '08) that escaped the Versailles Treaty restrictions to go to war again for the Nazis. Perhaps captured from a German, more likely confiscated at the end of hostilities in 1945.

Simpson & Co. would charge $3000 or more for one like that. But you have to figure their prices are straight retail and it would bring less in most dealing.

I grabbed (4) mags including the one it came with and filled them with Remington UMC 115g and we shot it. Flawless.

What a great find and a great buy. I looked around and it looks like we gave below market for it. It's a keeper.

It's a GI capture, have the story from the grandchildren. Grandpa took it off a dead kraut he killed. (or so they claim I guess, wasn't there myself).;)

Very cool! My brother Dave has a Luger his FIL took off a German he shot during the war, it still has the same ammo in the magazine that was in it when the soldier fell. Hasn't been fired since.

It's a fake. If you send it to me, I'll give it a good once over so I can protect you from the next one.

Why can't I ever find anything like that? Awesome gun.

Matt

Definitely one of the most fascinating examples of firearm history.
The knee-joint mechanism is fascinating.

Nice carry-weapon, too :)

I would think that one would be closer to $4000-4500 at a lively auction. It is one of the best I've seen with the provenance you have for it. I would clean it and keep it nice and not shoot it that often as pieces do break and it could be a $1000 shot! Enjoy!
