Hello, brand new member, long time lurker of the forums here. I've been searching for the easiest means of mounting a scope to a sporterized 1917. Picked this rifle up for $100, has a Remington receiver 292229 and a British barrel. The ears have been ground down, but the threaded tap for the iron sight is still good. In my lurking I found this, http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=...187_a_7c745_a_7c794001017_d_794001014_d_10255, which looks promising, but without the ears I'm not sure it will be a stable mount. Had the gun looked at by a smith and was told that the front of the receiver was higher than the rear, ground part. I'm not sure what that would do for the possibility of mounting a scope. Would love your suggestions.

Byzantine;
The Remington model 30 is (was) a model 1917 Enfield without the ears and built as a sporting rifle. Brownells www.brownells.com has Weaver bases that usually will work. I have them on my '17 Enfield & they work well.
Because each rear receiver has been cut down differently, you may need to shim the front or rear base as I did. This gives you the opportunity to give your rifle a few MOA higher at the rear to place your scope at +10 or so moa for long range. The bases I got were thicker at the rear, so your rifle is not unusual. When you fit the bases, because your rear receiver probably has a custom profile, you can use high strength steel filled epoxy to have the rear base conform to the shape of your reciever. (JB weld worked for me) When you contact Brownells, tell them what you have & they can and will help you out. They are top notch folks there.
Here's a photo of the '17 Enfield I built. With my handloads, it shoots into 1 moa very nicely with its original barrel yet.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. A buddy of mine is dragging it to some Denver gunsmiths to see what their opinion of it is. I will give Brownells a call.

Byzantine;
when you talk to Brownells, you can ask them about a Dayton Traister trigger and cock on opening kit. together under $100.00 and a fully adjustable most excellent trigger is the result.
