I was reading the latest issue of gunsnstuff and I found that they are selling 1919A4 Semi-Auto Rifle, and I was wondering if anyone had bought one from them and how it was. thanks

I have some experience with them. They are extremely fun in pretty much any quise, but I like the A6 kit you can get quite a bit. You won't be firing it shoulder mounted any time soon, but its pretty handy and makes you feel like you are wasting less ammo with the ability to go prone.

It's very simple to change the headspacing and alter your timing with one should you change ammo at any time, which you will do several times trying to find a surplus .308 that it likes to eat. I don't recall having any real trouble in particular with either the cloth or metal links, either works well. Overall, they are a lot of fun. Especially with a crank fire adapter....mmmm... Oh yeah, they make a machined scope mount for them that I always thought would be fun with a red dot on it.

If you have the funds to consider such things, I'd highly reccomend picking one up. At any rate they will probably get a lot harder to get ahold of in the future. And hey, I'm pretty sure its the ultimate EBR. You'll feel like a big man with a 2-foot tall pile of brass at your side...

ps- After just re-reading your post instead of paying good enough attention the first time around, I noticed you might be asking what the quality of a particular maker was. I actually have no clue what the ones they are selling are like, just the 1919 in general. I apologize if all of the above was useless to you.

I've been working on a semi-auto 1919a4 in .308, since the .30-06 parts would cost me another $300.

It must be the ultimate EBR, really.

308 is definitely the way to go. Somewhere I heard about a 7.62x39 conversion that was possible, but I cant recall where. That would definitely be a cheap shoot. But how un-American...

Kits are definitely a good way to go too.

I built one. In my opinion, it is an expensive gadget gun. Definitely fun, but when you have everyone on the range wanting some trigger time on belt fed 308...

Daedalus makes an excellent point. I was never hindered by taking one to a range. I don't really think it would be worth it if that's the only place you have to shoot at. I love getting to share, but it will never stop with one of those. And when people just start squeezing off 30 or 40 rnds, well, that stuff aint cheap.

The A6 is the only way to go. I had one for a while, it was a blast but as mentioned, gets expensive.

Sold it and bought one of these, a bit cheaper to feed, but not much...

There's one in .308 sitting at The Bullet Trap in Plano, Texas.
It's almost kinda funny to watch people get all excited about it until they find out that it's really just a very expensive semi-auto. Then the look of disappointment is universal.
