1933 Mauser (K98?) Type A in 9,3x62

Just saw this beauty on this german auctionsite.
Didn´t know they built them in that ( or other) calibers before the war already.
The seller says barrel is very good.

He´s asking 6,800€ for it.

Any input, comments on this
supposedly rare piece?

That is a wonderful example of a commercial Mauser produced prior to the arms buildup for WW2. I'm not sure if it's that rare or not.
Notice that there is no thumb cut out for the stripper clip.

Wow, As a fan of the 9.3 x 62 I would love to own that rifle. I think that would be around $9,600 in US dollars off the top of my head. Price maybe a little on the high side because of condition.

It is a fairly rare Mauser alright.... commercial, pre war, 9.3 x 62 + the double square bridge doubles its value $$$$. The type A Mauser was primarily made for export to the English market. According to my book they made about 125,000 of them between 1898 - 1946 in different calibers and configurations.

In the 9.3 x62 with those sights would suggest it was intended for hunting in Africa.

That is a beautiful rifle. As noted it's a true commercial action and not a rebuilt military model (no notch for stripper clip use) with the desirable double square bridge configuration. This will be an expensive rifle but I don't know if the asking price is realistic or not. It probably is about right for this rare and deluxe gun but I am just guessing.

In the U.S. 9.3mm bullets are not plentiful or cheap so that caliber would hurt value somewhat. Don't know about the situation in European countries.

I believe 9,3 is fairly common here.
If i am not mistaken it is rather spread
in scandinavia for Elk.

Not sure how common the 9.3 x 62 is in Europe. But in the US, ammunition is not usually found in most gun shops.

I usually order 9.3 x 62 ammunition and reloading components from Midway and Graf & Son. Factory Ammunition is manufactured by Norma, Lapua, Nosler, and Prvi Partizan.

The Type "A" (Standard or Special British Model) was a commercial Mauser, introduced before World War I, and produced on and off up into the 1930's. It came in the following calibers:

7x57
7.62x63 (30-06)
8x60
9x57
9.3x63

Various add ons (set triggers, horn inlays, ingraving, tangent sights, octagon barrel, etc) were available customizations.

They are uncommon in the states, but not necessarily rare the world over. Going back to the early 1990's, a model as you describe could be had for under $1000 US. A new square bridge Oberndorf can be had for under $8000.
