I am looking at getting into the semi-auto 7.62x54r game before it ends, and am looking at a PSL and some ammo. All i have in this caliber now are mosins, and the only ammo i have in any quantity is the Bulgarian Yellow tip heavy ball, and while it has been good i hear it should not really be used in the semi-autos. so my question is, how is this russian light ball 7.62x54r with the unmarked cases being sold at aim for 15.2 cents a round? is it any good? anybody shot it? Im wondering if i should have just payed the extra 10 bucks a can for the hungarian light ball. -Thanks

Ive never shot the 40s russian ammo, but I can tell you that the Hungarian light ball is very good ammo, the most accurate Ive used in my mosins.

I have, and while it's scary accurate, I also get a lot of split necks and shoulders when fired in my mosin. I'm not too worried in a bolt gun, but I'd be afraid of a face full of gas in a semi. Stick with my most favorite; the Hungarian light.
