Gentlemen,
These files tell us of a very MAJOR problem with the M1 Garand and RAIN. Check the dates of this problem. It's 1942 and we are at WAR. Let me know what you think. And how would you fix the problem ? Remember, If you need a better copy just email me.

Some of these posted before. Others are new data files.
Warning, before you go to my sites lower your volume as the opening page contains a sound file which has a loading and firing of the M1 Garand. So if you're at work or home it may be wise to check your volume control.

Gentlemen you know what to do. Not going great but some guys have bought Vol. 1 or Vol. 2 of the Garand Papers. TIA

Thanks again

Maybe I'm completely off in my guess here...

But what sort of lubricant were they using? A light oil? Or grease? Would rain be enough to wash grease off the rifle's operating surfaces and cause it to jam?

They said the rifles were failing to extract; what would cause the bolt to be jammed into battery? I'm not familiar enough with the weapon to know, but is it an ammunition problem?

Gentlemen,
Ordnance spent about 100,000 dollars trying to fix this problem. Finally they took it to Mr Garand. He stated that they use "grease" and not light oil. Bingo the problem was fixed.
Thanks again

As I recall that was when Lubriplate 130-A came into the picture.

Fired an M1 in heavy rain all day up in the Pacific NW years ago, to the point where the mag well was trying to fill up when the action was open. The rifle worked fine. After the last relay the sun came out for a brilliant sunset...

These days I use Militec grease which I like but lithium-based chassis lube or anything modern seems to work about as well as Lubriplate.

Thanks for continuing to post the info. It's always interesting...

Dienekes,
Thanks for your comeback. If you think this data is good you should see the wierd stuff in my books. Just had to get that plu in
Thanks again

* The M1 carbine had problems with the rain tests/heavy rain in operational conditions long about the same time as well...and for much the same reason.
