First Of all, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and may the New Year be better for all of us.
My Christmas Present arrived a few days ago. I invited my aunt Martha to come spend the holiday at my house since my uncle Bill passed away last year. He left me all his weapons and Martha brings one every time she visits. The first visit was a Model 29 44 Magnum and this time she surprised me with a 1958 Mannlicher-Schonauer in 30.06. Now, these guns were never fired, as my uncle bought them just because he liked them. He cleaned and maintained them all and the rifle still has the original grease in the magazine chamber. Have any one of you had an experience with this rifle? It was bought while they were stationed in Paris. He worked for the Sate Dept and every five years they were relocated. The model as far as I can see is the MC with the sports walnut stock.
I have read a little of what is posted now a days, but would like some real experience feedback. Thanks.

I was left this Model 1954 Mannlicher schoenauer 30-06 Carbine with a Zeiss 4x scope on it. It was purchased around 1958 by my Uncle to replace his 8mm Obendorf sporter he brought back from WW2. The 30-6 is an up grade on power and it has that fine optic. Those old post war Schoenauers are superbly made ingeinous actions and if your is a carbine versioit is worth at least $1500 in excellent condition. A 1958 Model 29 would be worth at least as much BTW. Uncles rock! G-d rest their souls!

If it was bought new in 1958, it is likely a Model 1956 Mannlicher-Schönauer, Sporting Rifle or Custom Carbine, the latter would have a full length Mannlicher stock.

Pictures are worth many multiples of words ;)

Will post pics tomorrow , as the rifle is at the gunsmith being cleaned. Its the Sports Stock, MC type. Date stamped on it is 1958. Original leather strap.

Nice pics Gordon. Uncles do Rock! Mine has the dark Walnut stock, and looks just like yours. How does it shoot?

Nice Rifle!

Hey PMROY - You got yourself a darn good rifle! I actually came into a similar rifle years ago. It was my dad's. He purchased it while stationed in Europe. I believe that he bought it directly from the Styer plant (in Austria... I think?) Anyway, it's the nicest action/trigger I've ever used. The only problem I've found is that I can't find scope mounts. I see that you already have mounts on yours. Can anyone out there shed some light into a manufacturer or a place to purchase similar mounts? I really want to set my M/S up right and not butcher such a fine rifle. Thanks!
