I have a 1958 standard Model 70 .243.Does any one know the twist rate for this rifle?.I've been shooting 100 grain core-lokts and sierra spitzers. With the newer choices in .243 bullets I'd like to see if the twist rate will handle them.

1 in 10" They do all right (I have 3 Model 70s ; a 1959 Varmint .243 AI, a 1961 Featherweight and a 1957 rifle ) with anything up to 100 grain factory loads. I have shot 105 grain Berger low drag and 105 grain A maxes out of the varmint and rifle . The 22" barrel Featherweight did not like the 105 grain bullets as much as it liked the 95 grain and under ones and is only an 1.5" gun with the factory 100 grain loads. I have a suspicion that is because the 1 in 10" twist is marginal for 100 grain and over and needs full speed to work. I never shot those 115 grain torpedoes yet .the 95 grain Nosler partitions and the Barnes Triple Shocks are very effective up to elk for hunting.

Thanks Gordon.Mine weighs about 9 lbs without scope. It has a 24 inch barrel.
