Found a very nice looking smith 15-4 for sale. Seller claims to be original owner, and has only run a few rounds through it to check function, then it's been a display piece. Claims it to be 98%.

Sadly, I'm no expert on identifying condition of guns beyond the obvious. It appears to be free of any blemishes, it's very nice and uniformly shiny. Bore looks as good as my 19-3

He's asking $625 for it - and taking it for stated condition of 98% - how's that for market price?

I find myself more and more looking at K frames... I may be experiencing the beginnings of a collector bug....

I'm not above paying a few extra bucks for something that's been taken care of -but I also don't want to pay way out of line either if I don't have to.

The last one I bought was a 19-3, pinned and recessed, nickle snubnose. It is in very good condition, at least 98%. I paid $700 for it at a LGS which I know is a high price but I really wanted that revolver. Truth be told my wife was with me at the time and bought it for me, bless her heart :)

I have also bought blued 19-3s and 19-4s in the $525-$600 range, all 98% or better.

And I've sold a few, all went for $650. I think you are looking at a fair deal but not a steal.

I would agree with bikemutt; it's not a steal at $625 but still a pretty decent price for the condition that you describe it as. Will the seller listen to a lower offer and does his price also include the original box and paperwork?

never thought about the box and paperwork. thanks for the info. will certainly ask.

it'll end up being $665 by the time I get my hands on it

What's the ball park value of a S&W Md. 66-3. Very good /excellent cond. Red ramp FS. rear target sight. I've shot gun 6 times. I bought it used about 20 yr's ago. It's been in safe this whole time. I don't want to sell it i'm just curious about the value at this time.

Around here they are going for $650 - $750 (66-3). That is used in 80-90% condition.
Sometime with box/papers, sometimes without. Doesn't seem to effect the price much either way.

I have a NIB 66 no dash that I have been offered $850 for.
