so, after much nagging, err persauding by Zak, me and the wife went to our first 3 Gun Match today. (we actually went last month but got rained out). What a hoot. :D
I'm sure I came in last (and I'm sure my wife beat me), but it was a hoot and I learned a ton, so did the wife.

Apparantly it was pretty small today (good for us) and was a pretty simple course (another good for us), 1 rifle, 1 pistol, 1 shotgun.
Our group started on the rifle, my wife smoked me. I did it faster, but she actually hit the targets.:neener:
We then went to shotgun. Fat people do not get low below picnic tables. Let me tell you. Worst part? I missed a IPSC target from 15 feet with a slug.
Ugh, I'm embarrassed.
The pistol I did pretty well.
I didn't hurry, tried to think about what I was doing and my only goal was not to DQ. I did that. didn't even get yelled at by the RO and learned a lot. And guys gave lots of good advice. Now we now a little bit about what's going on.
We'll be back, it was fun and learning experience.

the problem with the fancy rifles is that you lose all your excuses. :)
Definately no excuses, i shot poorly, my wife got a lot of A hits (although her time was slow, but that's the idea)
no jams, no fouls, ran perfectly.

We realized about 1/2 there (50 miles one way) that we forgot the camera. Obviously we didn't go back.

Good for you and your wife!! I think it is just outstanding that you went out together and shot the match. The first match, no matter what kind of match it is, can be really intimidating. I hope you are both proud of each other!

When I was living in Denver I went to one of those matches at the Aurura Gun Club. Good stuff! They have lots of props, and creative stages.

I shot my Garand in it, and on one stage the person running the timer hadn't used an M1. At the end of the stage I had one round left in the rifle, so I pulled the bolt open, and the now-empty clip ejected. The timer gave me a startled look and said that something just fell off my rifle. :)

Scores came out. We weren't last.:D (almost though)
And, luckily I had a good pistol score and passed my wife.
whew, that would have been hard to live with my ego.:p

fun fun fun
