Did a last minute scouting trip, saw loads of droppings (not to mention the tons of cougar scat I also saw :what:)and some tracks. These were at least a week old as they were in dried mud. Ground was hard so not sure if they are still there. The middle toe was longer than my middle finger, could be a nice tom? Tried calling with a crow and a box call...no luck.
But...on way back had a pair gobble to the crow call. Trouble is they are across a not so easy river to cross. Looks like it may be a hard one to try it in the early am, but Im game for it. Ill put extra clothes in a trash bag in my backpack just in case.

Hope I got a nice pic to post tomorrow!!!

Success!!

Opening day turkey hunt and 1st wild turkey. I only hunted a couple of days last year half hartedly. This is my 1st serious year out. Its just a jake with a small beard (3"-4") and spurs (3/8") and over 14lbs (thats all my scale goes to). BUt now I can get my second tag and hunt for a big tom.

This was the bigger of the two birds I heard gobble up in their roost last night. Had the hen decoy set at about 20 yds. Two birds came in, this being the bigger one. Smoked it at about 35 yds with hevi shot #6. Dropped dead in its tracks, just a bit of floopin of the wings for a few seconds.

Dressed out the bird weighed 10lbs

Thanks, they sure got harder after opening day and all that pressure. I lost one today, created a mini landslide trying to get down to where they were. Ill try again and see what happens.

around here they are like vermin, everywhere, eating your deer feeder corn, drive up on them all the time, about as much challenge as finding an illegal alien at a day labor site, damn I wish there was an open season on them.....
