I have been working on a trade for a 2” Lawman for some time and we've finally settled on a deal. I've started looking for a holster for this gun and would like to get a Fist #9. I know for all intents and purposes a 2” Lawman is a snub-nose Trooper but the frame size is a little different; the 2” Lawman has a unique frame size all it's own. Neither the Trooper nor Lawman shows on Fist's gun list but they do show the Python. I'm certainly going to talk to Fist before I order but, just for my info, is the Lawman in question a bit larger or smaller than the Python? TIA

The Lawman was made as both a Mark III and a Mark V version.
The Mark III was Colt's "J" frame, the Mark V was a "V" frame.
These shared the same frame size as the King Cobra.

These are "about" the same size frame and cylinder as a Python.
However, a closely molded holster won't fit as well if it was made for a Python.
Due to the lower production of the Lawman in both versions, few holster makers ever made holsters for it.
If you can get a holster made for a 2 1/2" King Cobra, it would be only slightly longer then the Lawman with a 2" barrel.
Possibly Fist can do a custom holster for the 2".

I had a helluva time finding leather for about 2 years before finding a used Safariland 530 MD/FR (medium frame I assume?) that works well. It is a nicely crafted OWB thumb break. I would not have chosen a thumb break if I had a lot of choices but have grown to be quite comfortable with it. I was REALLY put off with the wire clip instead of belt loops, yet it is solid and strong and you will need that with this 2" tank.

The frame size difference from a Trooper Mk III is a complete surprise to me. I would have sworn that the Mk III Lawman and Trooper were the same frame. Am I mistaken? Wouldn't be the first time.

If you repeat my experience you will not even find a custom maker to give you the time of day. None seem to have the "blue gun" forms to build a custom.

It's a MKIII. I thought the Lawman was gone by time the MK V came along but I'm really more of a S&W guy. I actually bought this particular gun new in the early 80s and let it get away. Be glad to get it back.

I love mine. I'm not afraid of the weight and I feel secure with the Safariland wire clip and all. Even with .38 spl +P I like the rock solid stability and the ease of ejection. Action suits me and for a snub it is scary accurate (as is my DS).

P.S. As with all Colts with a frame mounted firing pin, snap caps are a MUST for any dry firing. Don't go cheap on the snap caps. I recommend A-Zoom.

P.P.S. You are REALLY gonna need a good belt.:D

Yeah Rswartsell, they're really a tank of a snub. I'm trading a nice Ruger MK I and some cash for it. Simply Rugged makes a holster for the Colt but I prefer a somewhat trimmer piece of leather. May have to go custom but I'm going to call Fist next week.
My EDC is a 5" 1911 so the belt is covered and I'm also aware of Colt"s foray into sintered parts but thanks for the reminder.

I like my PC Hugger...I use the same one for a Python, King Cobra, and Anaconda... I have worn the Anaconda daily on camping trips and paid no attention to it being on my side.

I had Wyatt Burp on the colt form make a holster for my 2" lawman. It fits perfectly
