I have a 30mm Nikon scope I will probably put on an AR. Nikon, and others, have a one-piece offset mount and 2-piece offset mounts.

Have you had any problems with the 2-piece mounts? They seem to be less expensive.

two piece will work fine as long as you can mount both on upper rail and not extend onto top of front rail. I did this once and had problem with my scope. I eventually had to remove scope and remount on a one piece mount to prevent a drifting zero. Once the scope was remounted on one piece mount all these issues disappeared. Obviously, each case is different but wanted to forward my experiences.

30mm mount

I have been using Nikon's AR Mount's since they hit the market 7 years ago. Great lock up and I appreciate the 20MOA base for longrange shooting.

I always encourage folks to save tie and sight in at 50 yards,25 if you have trouble getting on paper, then check out Spot ON to see where you need to be impacting at 50 yards for a 100/200 yard zero. Then move out to your zero to make sure impact is where it needs to be. While 2 piece mounts work fine, I much prefer 1 piece bases for added stability.

I tend towards smaller and more compact optics, and I've found that the 'default' distance between rings on the one piece mounts doesn't always accommodate my needs. Given that, I use the two piece mounts so that I can make sure that I get the base where I want it on the rail and the ring where I want it on the scope.

Like the other guys mention, one or two piece work fine if they work with YOUR scope. My experience is that with the cheek weld I have and the eye relief I need that the one piece cantilevered mount is the way to go.

Everybody has different spacing on the distance the two rings are apart on the mounts so that can make a difference with your scope.

I have Nikon M223 mounts and the M308 with 20 deg inclincation, Leupold 1 piece, Burris PEPR QD, Armalite 1", and recently the UTG pro mount for a beater gun (like other UTG pro pieces, pretty nice value). All of these have been acceptable for my usage (recreational not SHTF).

But to summarize, 1 piece mount all the way.
