good call with the stoeger, callo. for light and short, you can't beat a SxS. certainly you give up capacity to the pump, but that's what the handgun is for. and i don't plan on leaving the bedroom anyway, so it should be easy to keep both handy.
+1 on the single shot! I have an older Tracker 2, smooth bore, with rifle sights and loaded with #4 Buck and three in a cuff on the stock. First, I really doubt you need a second shot with that load at close range. Second, they are easy to use and safe. Not much accute motor skills needed to hit the release and drop another in the chamber. Or to cock the hammer back.
++1 on the double barrel. I just wish they were cheaper and more readily available. I blame you folks who play Cowboys for this! LOL
Winchester 1300 Defender in 20ga. if you can find one around. 18" barrel, matte black, fiber optic front sight and 8 shell capacity. A well-made and fast-handling shotgun.
With a butt cuff and recoil pad, you've got a great HD shotgun that's easy to move around in the house and, with practice, can run as fast as a pump without the "short-stroking" problem of a pump....
... I'm not sure I mis-read but I personally use 20 ga. 2 3/4" slugs for HD.
I would probably go with either an 870 or 500. As everyone says their proven, and a pump is almost 100% reliable. That does not mean I would rule out semi's but I have had more experience with pump shotguns.
I have a Stoeger youth 20ga. sxs next to the bed stoked with Remington buckshot. The youth model has 22" barrels, fixed chokes of imp. cyl. and modified. Being a sxs, the barrels sit farther back on the receiver, so the 22" bbl. gun is no longer than an 18" pump would be. They also sport the recoil pad and nicer looking stocks just like the Supremes, but without removable chokes. It handles very quick, and shoots like a dream.
A youth model 20 Gauge is just the ticket for HD. They are short, light, and very fast to handle. They also bring quite a bit of fire power to the fight.
