Anyone own a roughly 20 ounce .357 Mag revolver and if so what ammo do you run through it. How is recoil? Can you please be specific as to how much your firearm weighs which particular ammo you were using and what your perceptions were. Thanx

I used a 12oz .357 with 158gr everything, Fed Hydra, Winch Silv, Rem Saber, CCI Ashtrays. Never had retention problems, but I only used heavy bullet loads.

Recoil is tremendous and painful. You don't want to shoot more than a cylinder's worth - which is fine in defensive-use, but if you're into mega practice, it's like holding onto an m-80.

I've got a 25.5 oz .357. With Remington 125 gr. SJHP (I'm not a hypocrite re. defensive ammo penetration requirements, it's just the cheapest full-power .357 load I can find, so I use it for most of my practice), it's quite uncomfortable. The web of my hand turns red after the first cylinder, and the middle knuckle of my middle finger usually hurts for a couple days after.

That said, my hand gets rather numb around the third cylinder, so practice isn't too much of a problem. Still working on overcoming that flinch.

I have a S&W M640, which I think is 23 oz unloaded. .357 out of it is harsh but controllable. .38's are easier, and that's what I'll carry. I haven't had the chance to shoot it often enough to give you a list of ammo.

SP101 is 25 oz unloaded. I shoot 158 grains through mine, I find the recoil is not as sharp as with 125 grain loads.

Recoil is still a handful. I recently switched the factory grips for Hogue monogrips. haven't shot it yet, but will soon.

I fired my 25oz(ish) SP-101 with some 125 defensive loads (i *think* they were hydrashocks or golddots). I never wanted to do it again, and i am not a recoil-sensitive person. I can shoot 158g moderate loads without any problem though.
