If you may not know or were unaware, the huge SHOT Show in Las Vegas NV just displayed a slew of new firearms & accessories for 2015.

One big surprise for me is the "new" Desert Eagle. :D
Kahr Arms/Magnum Research rolled out a few modifications to the pistols which have been in the USA for about 30 years.
The new changes aren't bad IMO. The new 1913 type rail on the all stainless steel Desert Eagle frame is practical but it does lower the overall sleek design/robust appearance.
I don't think Hogue still makes the factory rubber grips but they have the same basic style.
I like the new ported Desert Eagle barrel. It's not as big as the comp style but still helps tame the recoil of the massive .50AE.
I think these stainless frame pistols come in .44magnum too.
I'm not aware of the US sale prices but it may be higher due to the fabrication/steel parts.
What do you other forum members think?....

I don't like the Bottom rail. Looks bulky to me.

My DE came to me magna-ported, and it shoots much nicer then the non ported examples I've shot, so a factory port job is a good idea. It does give you a little more blast though.

Factory grips still look cheap and ugly IMO. I shaped mine.

Now cue the folks to tell you it's a useless pistol......

It's a useless pistol. :)
They look good in the movies, though.
And they're effective war clubs.
But if you're going to get a pistol that big, it ought to be at least a 50 caliber.
Preferably a 50 S&W, if they ever make one.

Lower 1913 rail...

I agree, the big - with the lower accessory rail(1913) is that holsters or carrying the big pistol might be harder, with or w/o a laser or white-light. :uhoh:

Few US holster shops or firms offer regular Desert Eagle pistol holsters so the new rail style would require a pricey custom rig.
That said, I have seen printed gun mags with shooters/3 gunners/LE-military special ops with custom rigs.
The bulky 2015 Desert Eagle seems to be geared for home defense, special applications, collecting or target shooting.

I can't recall anyone every carrying or using a big DE as a sidearm or even a SWAT weapon. I did see a "re-enactment" police video where a guard in a armed robbery pulled a Desert Eagle but that wasn't real life.

Geared for special apps, collecting or target shooting...yes.

But home defense? Not for me. The word "overkill" comes to mind. A bit unwieldy and a lot more bang than needed. Talk about decibels! That .50 AE will probably take out somebody's dog in the next county.

I bought mine last year in 44 magnum as a unique hunting pistol. It's just as accurate as my super redhawks are if not more so. After an initial break in it's been pretty reliable for me so far but I only have a couple hundred reloads in it.

I don't like the underside rail on the new ones but the port does look good.

Did you really describe the Desert Eagle as having sleek design?

I mean, it's a lot of things. Robust appearance, as you mention, definitely comes to mind. But when I think sleek, I think a Whitney Wolverine, or perhaps Walther PPK or Sig P232.
Not that this is a criticism. I actually find it somewhat humorous.

It's a useless pistol.

Not true.

It is an excellent big game handgun, easily capable of taking larger species at respectable handgun ranges (150 yards) in .50 AE. Up until the .500 S&W, it rivaled the .454 Casull for world's most powerful handgun round (ignore the T/C Contender Data; in a 7.5" revolver, top loads put the the .454 dead even with max .50 AE loads from a 6" DE at about 1,600 FPE). Wish I still had my BHC Mk. XIX .50, but the mortgage was more important.

They are very accurate, and have a pretty decent trigger. As a hunting pistol, they are superb. And for range fun, rather difficult to beat. No, they're not practical for defense for a number of reasons. But neither are a lot of firearms. Calling the it useless, though, only means that you don't understand it's merits.

The rail might make sense for a foregrip if someone is into that and does the NFA stuff.
Or for using it as an anchoring point for making that gun into a funky carbine like they're doing with some guns these days.

Sleek...

Id call it sleek because the older Desert Eagle models are stream lined or smooth.
The lower 1913 rail seems like it may be hard for a holster to fit properly, :uhoh: .
A white light or laser dot might help but that would make a DE even heavier.

Maybe they had weight reduction beyond the material shaved off in mind.

MIL-STD tactical helium balloon mount anyone? Ha!

Weight...

I don't know the specs or listings for the new 2015 DE but Id guess the new stainless frame DE will weight more than older series pistols.
My flabby old man arms can't really work the slide on big Desert Eagle pistol so either way I'm not going to be firing any soon, :D .

True story:
About a year ago, my friend & I went by a Gander Mountain retail location & I saw a NIB Desert Eagle .50AE pistol(Ti version). I asked the gun dept clerk if he could clear & rack the DE so I could check it. The young guy(who was in decent shape) looked right me & said; nope! :D
