2021 scopes

I just seen that one myself.
Seems like were likely to see a few new options at least, there was a decent amount of discontinuation/inventory dumps amongst all of the manufacturers last year.

Part of dropping some products might stem from having to cut production capacity due to social distancing though. Keep the best sellers, and cut the more niche stuff.

Hadnt thought about that but yeah That would make sense.

You guys have Wal-Mart in Hawaii? lol. Just joking. I do like the quad lock rings but most my stuff wears burris Z rings. I tent to like Leupold for hunting due to the weight, slimness of the scope and in lower light it seems to be brighter and sharper, at least on my vx2-vx3. I cant remember the model. I tried Bushnell dusk and dawn and IMO its about as clear as a simmons or tasco. Nikon was decent, Vortex crossfires seem to be bad in low light.

It's all in the quality tier of glass you buy, which = $$$. (We all know this already.) In my view, Simmons, Tasco, Burris, Bushnell are all about equal and are all garbage, at any price. When I was young, dumb, and poor, I tried all of those brands in different formats (field glasses, spotters, rifle scopes). They were all crap. I wish now I had just saved money and bought top tier way back when.

But I think the lower cost lines of the more expensive names, such as Leupold and Vortex are also lacking. I have Vortex Diamondback spotter that is...I don't know what to say. It gets the job done and pretty well. At $500-ish it was the most I could spend at the time. I often wonder if I should have went for the next higher model. (The Viper line I think.)

There are, of course, exceptions. A buddy and I both have identical Redfield Revolution 4-12x32 scopes on same caliber bolt guns and we both like them. (He likes his more than I like mine.) When you think about it, you use field glasses for most of your glassing/finding game, and then you use a spotter for looking for details (how wide is the antler rack? how many brow tines (on moose) or is that horn a full curl (on sheep) counting points etc.) Those are the optics on which we spend the most money. A rifle scope is just an aiming device. It just has to be clear enough at low light to aim and shoot. So I'll eventually trade up from my redfield, but it will be the last piece I improve on.

I think $200 for the freedom line isnt too horrible. I would never spend the money on some of their higher end offerings. I do think they got too big for their britches over the years. A Vx2 used to cost $200. Do away with the rifleman, vx1-vx2 and offer a vx1 at vx2 prices. I used to buy Nikon Prostaff's due to the price and better optical quality than a bushnell. When I found Vx2 I found for an extra $100 I got twice the features and glass. If they ever go above $200 for an economy scope they can keep it. Other than super low light I think my Vortex 4-12 is the same quality as a Freedom 4-12.
I wonder why they dropped the VX1 and VXII line. To me calling something Freedom Line just makes it sound cheap, did they have to change it because it was a departure from the VX or because they thought it was a good marketing plan, if it was I don't think it helped their case, calling something the patriot or the American or Freedom makes them sound tacky and cheap, please don't interpret that the wrong way, I'm sure most of you know what I mean.

I have one, haven't tried it yet. Seems like a nice m, decently made scope for $250. I would like it better if it had a black glossy finish.

If you find any let me know. All my hunting guns and maybe a target gun will be going to higher end optics.
Call the guys at Cameralandny (actually CALL), check out eurooptics, scopelist (same place, but sometimes can get a bargain by asking), and swfa often has sales.

I also buy used, open box, and demo.
I ordered a Meopro HTR from Cameraland for 600ish, and then about a week later bought Cabelas Instinct HTR...same scope...for 400 off ebay.

SO that's who makes Cabela's scopes. I often wondered.
Some of them, there are Alaskan guide series made in Japan, Bushnell elites from what I've read, as well some that weren't. The Instincts are Meoptas, tho some of the other guys know more about exactly which scopes are which.

Interesting. I never considered Bushnell as quality. Glad I never bought any of their store brand. Think I'll stick with Vortex.

Ive been very happy with my bushnells, but everyone has brands they like and brands they dont.
Ill say this tho, MOST of Cabela's store branded scopes arnt real high on my list.

Glass is very good, edge to edge. My buddy Jeff concurs. Adjustments are nice, not great, but nice, & certainly usable. Markings on turrets are good, not great, could have been crisper, and they are a bit busy, but again, very usable. Nice scope caps. No sun shade. "Made in Japan" on the bottom, which is nicer than the "Made in China" on my Forge. I'm quite happy with it at $500 vs $1K. Really impressed with the crispness of the reticle and the sharpness/clarity of the glass. The eyebox at 5X is very nice, Ok at 25X. Needs a throw lever. It's smooth, but for PRS it needs a throw lever.

A Siskel & Ebert two thumbs up.

Thanks for the mini review!
I paid more attention to them after i read they were Japan made, as i generally LIKE japan made scopes.

Out of curiosity, and because I know we both have one, how does it compare to the Forge?
